AFRICAN INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIVE CENTER
Nurses and healthcare workers in general have gone through a lot in the phase of the Covid-19 pandemic. Consequently, AICC ran biweekly and culturally tailored support groups for African nurses and other essential healthcare workers. The goal was to provide a shared space for them to meet with other African nurses from various clinics and build supportive network. In addition, share their experiences, challenges and coping strategies so that they can learn from each other, build coping strategies, and identify available resources that they may not be aware of and to develop ways to be better equipped for the future.
Online Support Group Sessions for African Immigrant Healthcare Workers
This is a follow up of the Covid-19 weekly online support group sessions for African immigrant nurses and health care workers (HCWs). The program provides an opportunity for continued support, selfcare and family strengthening to facilitate the Covid-19 healing process and ease stress.
Hands On Photography: Youth Program
The Hands-On Photography program enables youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through the appreciation of photography. At the same time teaching them fundamental skills for their personal and academic goals.
Mental Health Youth Ambassador Program
The Ambassadors program is funded by a grant from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in coordination with the Young Men’s Initiative (YMI) and the Civic Engagement Commission (CEC). The purpose of the program is to provide stipends for young adults in 33 TRIE communities to lead and organize community programs that focus on youth mental health. They will help educate their peers about youth mental health and reduce the stigma on mental illness in their community.
